About Us

In 2023, two artists got together with the same idea: creating a socially responsible space to dream up stories. We are Julia Granillo and Mica Bolaños, experts in the witchcraft that is animation, we were born in the magical and nonsensical land of Mexico City, always in movement from the tectonic plates to the thousands of people buzzing around. Still, our paths met during our studies abroad where we learned how to establish a supportive community of artists based on empowerment, friendship and chisme.

 

We realized that our ideals didn’t fit in the boxes the animation industry presented to us, so we decided to construct our own shapeshifting box to give space for play, experimentation, and artisanal processes.  To make our best work, we must have a highly collaborative, comprehensive understanding of each member of the team and their needs. 

Since we focus our magical powers on animation and not the creation of gold and bread, our brains (and hands, and eyes, and mouths... You get it) are ready to bring to life whatever crazy idea, commercial, or independent project you might have in mind.

 

Our aim through our storytelling is to merge real stories from underrepresented groups alongside tales of fantasy and resistance. We prioritize the effect our narratives might have on the world, so we take special care through in-depth research and human connection with everyone involved in the process.

En 2023, dos artistas se juntaron con una misma idea: crear un espacio socialmente responsable para soñar historias. Julia Granillo y Mica Bolaños, expertas en la brujería que es la animación, nacieron en la tierra mágica y sin sentido de la Ciudad de México, siempre en movimiento desde las placas tectónicas hasta las miles de personas zumbando a su alrededor. Aún así, nuestros caminos se encontraron durante nuestros estudios en el extranjero, donde aprendimos cómo establecer una comunidad solidaria de artistas basada en el empoderamiento, la amistad y el chisme.

 

Nos dimos cuenta de que nuestros ideales no entraban en las cajas que nos presentaba la industria de la animación, así que decidimos construir nuestra propia caja no cuadrada, para dar espacio al juego, la experimentación y los procesos artesanales. Para hacer nuestro mejor trabajo, debemos tener una comprensión integral y altamente colaborativa de cada miembro del equipo y sus necesidades.

Dado que enfocamos nuestros poderes mágicos en la animación y no en la creación de oro y pan, nuestros cerebros (y manos, ojos y bocas... ajá) están listos para darle vida a cualquier idea loca, comercial o proyecto independiente que tengas.

 

El objetivo es fusionar historias reales de grupos subrepresentados con historias de fantasía y resistencia. Priorizamos el efecto que nuestras narrativas podrían tener en el mundo, por lo que nos enfocamos en la investigación extensiva y la conexión humana con todas las personas involucradas en el proceso.
